Reading through Proverbs

First I want to say Happy March it’s a new month with new possibilities. As you know March has 31 days in it so you know what that means? Yep! it’s a great time to read a Proverb a day🤗. If you’re wondering what book to read or study then I definitely recommend Proverbs. You can read a chapter a day in March to allow time each day to sit and to meditate on scripture, as well as anything that it may be speaking to you on. Proverbs is where I started when I turned my life back to Christ and wanted to know and study his word for myself, and not just rely on Sunday to receive my daily bread. Thats something I do recommend is if you are struggling to pick up your bible not regularly but EVERYDAY then try reading a Proverb a day. I guarantee you that something in Proverbs will speak to you, this is actually the book that had me picking my bible up everyday after not doing so in quite sometime. When I tell you that Proverbs read me it truly read me, it read me on things that I had to sit with and see which one of the 3 I were and how to grow from it and take on the wisdom that Proverbs truly possesses. What is this 3 you speak of, let me tell you about the 3 types of people that is spoken of in the book of Proverbs. There are 3 people that you must pay attention to, because in the first half of Proverbs it sets the groundwork for you to start seeing these 3, and the 2nd and 3rd half you should be well on your way of deciphering the 3 with discernment. These 3 types are, the wise, the simple-minded, and the fool. When I tell you this book will have you seeing where you are on various areas of your life. It will tell you when you are being simple-minded in one area and yes, it will tell you when you’re being a plum fool about it too. There were instances where I went back and realized in previous situations where I had been a fool but it also showed me how to grow, and if that situation presented itself again how to handle it with wisdom next time. So if you’re wanting to get wisdom with and start growing in wisdom take a month and read a Proverb a day. I am going to give you some questions to be asking yourself as you read through Proverbs to help you start applying it to your life and grow your wisdom with God.

  1. What virtue does this Proverb speak on?

  2. Is this virtue something that I need to work on, and grow in wisdom on?

  3. What value does it affirm?

  4. If a Proverb speaks to you currently on something that you are dealing with, see which 3 that you are in the situation. And then see how can wisdom be brought into the situation. Also pay attention to the fool traits because it tells you in Proverbs how to deal with a fool as well. (Proverbs 14:7,Proverbs 26:4) just to name a few scriptures on dealing with a fool.

  5. Do a character chart with the 3. I recommend doing a character chart with 3 lines with each one at top, and every time you see something make note of which one it is. This will help build your discernment of knowing and paying attention to what you’re dealing with to better respond to things. So pay close attention on Proverbs 1-9 chapters because the rest of the book is built from that foundation.

Now those are my tips on how to get jump started on your journey to wisdom, as well as reading through Proverbs. I will be reading through it this month myself and hope you do as well. Try implementing the 5 tips I gave to help you dive deeper into Proverbs and not just reading it to check off that you read it but to truly apply it to your life. This book is truly a book that is for all areas of your life. So dive in and open your heart posture to the book of Proverbs, because if you do I guarantee you will see a change with how you react to things and grow.

Happy March and Happy month of Wisdom! Be blessed and let me know if you are going to read a Proverb a day. I’d love to know what you are learning and how it’s been speaking to your life.
